Subject: CONAN in Finland
Hi Guys-
A very belated note of thanks for all the effort your team put forth in getting CONAN to Finland in February. Conan and everyone here at Late Night truly appreciate the lengths that your group went to on our behalf. Anytime we plan a remote outside the U.S., the London Bureau and Lucy is always my first call. We couldn't have pulled it off without your help.
Over the last 13 years, I have produced many field shoots. "CONAN in Finland" was the second trip where we worked with Jonathan Young. Our previous trip last summer to Hyderabad, India was such a success due largely to Jonathan's skill, energy, attitude, and knowledge of the medium.
When CONAN decided to make the trip to Finland, the first person that came to mind was Jonathan. This was going to be a difficult trip for us. There would a lot of attention focused on this trip due to a great deal of advance press. Filming a 2 camera international remote in high-definition, with talent, which would then be edited as one complete hour long special - "LATE NIGHT in FINLAND" did not make this international excursion any easier. Jonathan and his crew did not disappoint. Everyone, including Conan O'Brien, Jeff Ross (Executive Producer), Mike Sweeney (Head Writer), was duly impressed.
Conan and our writers are always concerned when working with a new crew as so much of our comedy is visually driven and thus in the hands of the camera operator. With Jonathan we need not have those concerns. The long shooting days, the last minute requests, extreme weather, and a constant diet of smoked reindeer did not faze Jonathan. Nor was he fazed while filming riding backwards on dog sleds and snow mobiles. In fact, I think he enjoyed it and never did we hear "it can't be done."
Everyone on our show and our West Coast Network Executive were most impressed with the Finland Special and the resultant ratings. And while I know you are all aware of his talents, I wanted to convey Conan's appreciation for Jonathan's contribution on this trip. Clearly, when CONAN is next out of the country, it is Jonathan Young we will want behind the camera.
Thanks again for all the help...
Geoff

Re: Jonathan Young
"What can I say about Jonathan Young? A real pro! There aren't many peopel I can say I would go to war with, but I did with Mr. Young and had no regrets, rather gratitude!. A true pleasure to work with someone truly committed to the project as much as he was.
I feel compelled, especially considering the circumstances, to Jonathan's credit not only does he get the shot of the bank robbery and nastiness in Basra, but always brings much more than picture and sound to any shoot.
There are few cameramen that I would rather work with in Iraq, London, or anywhere in the world!"
